Investment committee
The principal objectives of the committee are:
- To act as a sub-committee of the Management Committee of AILO focusing on matters related to the investment activities of international life assurance offices.
- To act as a cross border forum to enable members to share knowledge and past experience of developments in investments for life assurance funds internationally.
- To be a forum for the discussion by Members of investment governance issues arising from investment strategies and product innovations of fund management groups.
- To provide a central body through which AILO may recommend to Member Companies that they take account of risks and restrictions in respect of particular types of investment whilst having regard to best practice and the legal and regulatory environment in which they conduct business.
- To be aware of and, whenever possible, anticipate legislative and regulatory developments - including the tax treatment of certain types of investments - which will impact the products and life funds that are offered and liaise with other AILO committees where appropriate.
- To foster contacts with similar committees in other associations and, where appropriate, share experience and data with a view to developing common positions on developments.
- To support the AILO executive with input to legislative and regulatory lobbying efforts with membership inputs on developments on investment related matters.
In carrying out its work, in particular exchange of information and experience and the development of common positions on matters of interest to members, the committee shall comply with competition rules.
The committee shall appoint a Chair person and vice-Chair person and will set its own timetable for meetings although it is recommended that at least 3 meetings a year are held.
